Constructing Modern Knowledge

This was a one-day event, and in some ways a preview for the main conference in the summer, which I hope to attend.

My best experiences of the day were actually meeting Jane Krauss, at the National Center for Women in Technology, and having a conversation with her and Gary Stager, the organizer of the event. Stager is a diehard constructivist and very opinionated. We had a long chat after the day was over, which ranged over lots of issues related to education and computer science. Jane and I talked about collaborating on curriculum resources for computer science education.

The most interesting session was presented by David Thornburg. He focused on inquiry-driven projects in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. He demonstrated the inquiry-based learning process in action by asking us to work in groups to tackle a large question, and led the session as the teacher.
